25–27 September – Rino School, Tehran
Bazar Art Books is a platform dedicated to presenting and selling art books while fostering interaction between publishers and their audiences. Artists who use publishing as an artistic medium are invited to participate.
At this edition, artists and institutions that have produced and published art books, photobooks, zines, artists’ books, and other printed matter—including posters, postcards, and stickers—across various fields such as photography, painting, illustration, poetry, and typography, will showcase their works either individually or collectively at their tables.
For three days, all participants will gather at Rino School to present and sell their works. Alongside the exhibition and book fair, the 2024 edition of Bazar also features zine-making workshops, discussions on publishing, and presentations by artists.
Programs
Wednesday:
16:30 to 18:00 | Hashr O Nashr
Hashr O Nashr, which literally translates as ‘Socialisation and Distribution’ in Farsi, is an informal roundtable discussion with several artists whose books have been displayed on Bazar tables at various art book fairs. In this session, rather than focusing on the works or the artists themselves, we want to talk about the experience of running a table, the audience, what is exchanged on the tables, and who buys these items.
Thursday:
12:00 to 15:00 | Book-Making Workshop for Beginners: Shabahang Tayari
16:00 to 17:00 | Artist Presentation: Sana Ahmadizadeh
Sana Ahmadizadeh is an independent photographer and visual artist based in Ahvaz, Iran. She is a self-taught photographer whose works focus on social and political issues, drawing inspiration from her personal experiences. Over the past three years, she has focused on her projects through photo books and has self-published three of her books to date.
17:30 to 18:30 | Table Presentation: Cutt Press
Erin Honeycutt, founder of Cutt Press in Berlin, will introduce her new books via video. During this presentation, she will discuss the stories behind her previous books, their history, and the production process. The video will be screened at Bazar Art Books, and the audience will have the opportunity to participate in an online Q&A session with Erin.
Friday:
12:00 to 15:00 | Zine-Making Workshop: Saghi Parkhideh, Tehran Zine
Theoretical Workshop: An introduction to zines as an artistic medium in contemporary art, focusing on self-publishing, and introducing Tehran Zine.
Practical Workshop: From idea to creation, for making a single-page or two-page zine.
16:00 to 17:00 | Artist Presentation: Ali Ansari
Ali Ansari redefines traditional and classical Iranian art concepts in a contemporary context through his Murraqqa works. Combining classical Persian literature, Iranian miniatures, and applied geometry, he created Murraqqas, simultaneously visual poetry books and architectural sculptures. Through the fusion of poetry and imagery, he explores new layers of meaning and the relationship between poetic expression and visual representation, inviting the audience to reflect on the emotions embedded in his works.
17:30 to 18:30 | Presentation of Bazar’s Archive
Since its inception, Bazar has been dedicated to collecting and archiving art books, publications, and related resources. The extensive network of the market’s founders and international collaborators has facilitated the acquisition of many books and publications. In this session, Ronak Moshtaghi and Hedieh Ahmadi will introduce several examples from Bazar’s archive and discuss the methods of collecting and preserving Bazar’s archive.
